The Lord will build your mansion

When at church today someone bore their testimony and she refered to a story that really touched me....thanks to my dear friend Google...I was able to find the reference which comes from...

Elements of Happiness BY: Donald M Wright

"The terrible thing, the almost impossible thing, is to hand over your whole self--all your wishes and precautions--to Christ. But it is far easier than what we are all trying to do instead. For what we are trying to do is to remain what we call "ourselves," to keep personal happiness as our great aim in life, and yet at the same time be "good." We are all trying to let our mind and heart go their own way--centred on money or pleasure or ambition--and hoping, in spite of this, to behave honestly and chastely and humbly. And that is exactly what Christ warned us you could not do. [C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity (New York: Macmillan, 1952), 168; book 4, chapter 8, paragraph 7]

When considering the importance of our willingness to modify our independence to create happiness in our lives, Lewis used the George MacDonald imagery of remodeling a house:

Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of--throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself. [C. S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, 174; book 4, chapter 9, paragraph 10]

Yes, the Savior is willing to make of each of us a mansion, but this He will not do without our permission."

I loved this because it tells us that change is uncomfortable, but when we ask for the Lord's help, because He can see our worth and potential He will take that invite and make us into something even greater than we expected for ourselves.

Change is hard, this I know. It is not always comfortable, nor easy. Infact...I started my new ward last week, and change is so hard for me that I only went to Sacrament last week...and this week I endured Sacrament AND Sunday School...and next week, I shall stay for all 3 meetings...because I know this change is necessary, even though it is the most uncomfortable.

A quote on my Google homepage of "Reminders from God" said,

"Just go step by step. My Will shall be revealed as you go."

This also I know to be true. We cannot stand idle...we have to keep moving, and if it is in the wrong direction...He will let us know.

Its like the story of the Firemen who are fighting a raging fire on the mountain...the helocopter drops them off at the top of the Mountain telling them to wait for instructions via walkie-talkie...so they get to the top and wait but for directions...but nothing comes thru...so they sit down and eat their lunch, after lunch, they decide to take a nap... they just keep expecting to only wait a little longer....but communication does not come, they are in a dead zone....but if they had walked just a few feet in any direction they would have received their communication.

We have to keep moving....we cannot stand still and wait for a answer...we cannot not move because it is uncomfortable...He will guide us, we just have to ask for His help, and it will come.

Sorry, I don't know if this will make any sense....it is two random thoughts that fit together, to me! :)
